We endeavour to develop water safety and canoe skills in our young scout members. Utilising the skills achieved towards their programmed development in the Scout Association. We use the Canoe England awards.
Our regular paddling sessions are held on the Bridgewater Canal. As in 2010, 11, 12, 13 14, 15 & 16 these are at Warrington District‘s Campsite and the 25th Warrington East Scout Group HQ., behind St Wilfrid's Church, Church Lane, Grappenhall, Warrington. Before 2010 we paddled for several years at Grappenhall Sports Club, we have been about a long time!
Parents are welcome to join in our canoeing and kayaking activities. Outside of the Bridgewater Canal session specific training days are occasionally organised along with a few river trips for those members who are progressing skills wise. Whilst we are Warrington East based we have strong links to Warrington West District and their scouts join the ASU for canoeing activities.
Our adult leaders are: Mark O’Dell (ASU Manager) Level 3 Coach, Steve Savage Level 2 Coach, Pat Moran Level 3 Coach, Mike Hankey, Simon Fathers, Ed Gough (Treasurer) and Alex Devers Level 1 Coaches. Graham Hughes, Colin Lowndes, Joe Appleton, Adam Potts, Ian Cross, Gary Chadwick, Laura Fielding, Owen Rabbitt and Dave Smith - scout permit holders. We are also supported by some Young Leaders / Explorers who also have Permits.
