Members pay subs on attending of £4.70 All members must be able to swim 50 metres in light clothing with a buoyancy aid and stay afloat for 5 minutes thereafter. Some attendance will be by invitation to those who wish to attend weekly to build skills, gain awards or complete D of E Awards - notably Scouts / Explorers. Enquire if interested with Mark - mjodell87@gmail.com
Members who attend regularly can build their personal kayaking and open canoeing skills level and take the British Canoeing Awards and Scout Badges see here Those who develop basic skills including rescue skills can further progress to the BCU Paddlesport Safety and Rescue Award.
Parents please don't bring cars onto the actual campsite (That’s through the galvanised double gates - parking is best on the area at the bottom of the church graveyard or out in the village.
Members should bring clothing they can paddle in and get wet - several warm layers may be required particularly at the start of the paddling season! Consider bring a hot drink and snack for after paddling - wash hand first.
If you get soaking wet on the canal, don’t walk into the changing rooms at the Scout HQ dripping wet. Take some of the wetter layers off outside the building - use some common sense. Leave the changing rooms and your kit tidy and don’t leave anything behind including litter! Always shower when you get home. Keep noise levels on the campsite and when canoeing to a minimum. Beavers & Explorers may be using the site as well so respect their use.
We may accept selected members attending weekly if they really wish to progress skills wise - contact mark for details.
